Orbit — Privacy Policy

Orbit is a food-logging app for iPhone. It has no accounts. Everything you log stays on your phone unless you choose to export it.

What stays on your device

Your food log, goals, favorites, onboarding answers and settings are stored only on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them. You can also erase them from Settings inside the app. The widget reads a small summary of today's rings from a shared container on the same device.

Apple Health

If you allow it, Orbit reads dietary fiber, sodium, sugar and potassium from Apple Health to show your seven-day average, and — only if you turn it on in Settings — writes each food you log to Health as dietary samples. Health data is never sent to Orbit's developer, to analytics, or to any third party, and is never used for advertising. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app.

Barcodes and branded-food search

When you scan a barcode or search branded foods online, the barcode digits or your search text are sent to Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central (and, when Orbit's own lookup service is enabled, to that service, which caches product data in the European Union) so the product's nutrition facts can be shown. No other data is sent with the request. Foods from the built-in USDA database are searched entirely offline.

Camera

The camera is used only while the barcode scanner is open, to read barcodes. No images are stored or transmitted.

Purchases

Subscriptions are handled by Apple and by RevenueCat, which validates receipts and keeps an anonymous identifier generated on your device, purchase history and, when provided by Apple, the storefront country. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email or food log. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Analytics

Orbit sends anonymous usage events (for example "a food was logged", "the paywall was viewed", the app version and device model) to PostHog, hosted in the European Union, so the developer can see which parts of the app work. These events are tied to a random identifier generated on your device — never to your name, email, contacts or location — and never contain which foods you ate or any Health data. You can reset that identifier at any time from Settings. Orbit does not use advertising identifiers, does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission because it does no tracking.

Notifications

If you turn reminders on, Orbit schedules local notifications on your device (the 8 pm closer, a culprit line, a Sunday report, and a heads-up before a free trial converts). They never leave your phone and can be turned off in Settings at any time.

Messages you send

"Message the developer" sends the text you write through the same analytics channel. Don't include anything you'd rather not share; an email address is optional and only used to reply.

Children

Orbit is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
